Iceland 2019 - Recap
ICELAND! What a magical country. Majestic views around every corner, thousands of waterfalls, friendly locals, and the hottest tap water you’ve ever encountered (pumped from the hot spring source!). I was lucky enough to spend another week exploring this beautiful country with a pack of hilarious, adventurous and supportive women.
We started our trip in Reykjavik, strolling the colorful streets, learning about the history of Iceland’s only proper city, and eating classic Icelandic hot dogs and what could be the world’s best pastries. A trip to Iceland wouldn’t be complete without a soak in the Blue Lagoon, known for its amazing blue water and mud masks! After leaving the city, we explored the Golden Circle, including the original geyser Geysir and the huge Gullfoss waterfall. The sun came out as we climbed onto Icelandic horses with great hair-dos and we were able to see three active volcanoes – eek! Iceland is home to over 7000 waterfalls, and we visited many of them – including walking behind the epic Skogafoss falls! Finally, we had a day full of ice – walking on a glacier, a boat tour through an iceberg lagoon led by the Norse god Thor himself (probably), and a visit to Diamond Beach, where icebergs who have drifted to sea come back to land.
On top of all that, we pushed ourselves and each other to try new things, and laughed until our bellies hurt. I’m so grateful to this group of women (or “gerls” as we often were called!) who were open to new experiences and to forming friendships with strangers from around the globe. It was an amazing week, and we’ll be back, Iceland!
Cheers to you, and cheers to ‘living big’ in Iceland, at home and beyond!
